WHY DO WE SWEAT?
Sweating is a physiological process that regulates body temperature and is influenced by climatic, emotional, and physical activity factors.
The presence of sweating that exceeds physiological needs, influenced or not by these factors, is called hyperhidrosis or excessive sweating.
It is believed that there is a dysfunction of the sympathetic nervous system, which acts as the body’s thermostat, related to hyperactivity of sympathetic nerve fibers that causes overstimulation of the body’s sweat glands.
This alteration usually begins in childhood or puberty and if not properly addressed, persists throughout life.
Excessive sweating or hyperhidrosis of the hands, feet, armpits, or face can have a significant impact on quality of life, to the point of causing anxiety, embarrassment, social isolation, and even limitations in daily activities. Therefore, hyperhidrosis is a condition that requires medical attention to improve the quality of life for those who suffer from it.
There are various treatment options for hyperhidrosis, including topical treatments, oral medications, botulinum toxin injections, and surgery. The choice of treatment will depend on the severity and location of excessive sweating, as well as the patient’s preferences and needs. In general, treatment is effective and can provide significant relief from hyperhidrosis symptoms.
How to cure it?
The best treatment is surgery
THORACIC ENDOSCOPIC SYMPATHECTOMY
The Gold Standard of surgical treatment today is the Bilateral Thoracic Endoscopic Sympathectomy, which consists of the section of the sympathetic nerve chain and is indicated for excessive sweating of the hands, armpits, face, scalp, and pathological facial blushing.
Eliminates excessive sweating from:
Palms of Hands and Soles of Feet
Armpits
Face and Scalp
Pathological Facial Blushing

How is the surgery?
This procedure is performed under general anesthesia and in most cases does not require hospitalization, with the patient being able to go home the same day of the surgery.
It consists of the sectioning of the sympathetic chain within the chest, bilaterally, in specific areas that contain the nerve fibers that carry the stimulus to the sites where hyperhidrosis occurs, so that this stimulus cannot be transmitted to the sweat-producing glands. The procedure is carried out through two small incisions of less than one centimeter on each side of the chest, through which the special endoscope optical system and instrumentation are introduced.
Once the indicated portion of the sympathetic chain is sectioned, the effect of the disappearance of hyperhidrosis is immediate, with the patient’s satisfaction level being extremely high and long-term results approaching 99% success.
After the surgery, compensatory sweating on the back may occur in some cases, which may cause minimal discomfort, but is compensated by the relief of sweating in the affected areas, which is what patients desire.
